History and art: another reason for visiting Madrid

Madrid is the capital of Spain and it is also the country’s art capital and a reference across Europe. This big city is full of world-famous museums and art galleries such as Museo del Prado or Thyssen – Bornemisza museum. There are also many alternative cultural centres where young artists try to be famous.

Madrid has always been the cultural focus of the country, both in literature and other disciplines (dancing, theatre, zarzuela…) and many visitors travel to Madrid on weekends to watch a recital, a film premiere, a concert or a musical.

Museums and galleries in Madrid

Although there are multiple centres and small places where to see the most original pieces of art in Madrid, there are also must-visit public artistic centres  

  •      Museo del Prado: it’s the most important museum in Spain. It’s also the most important museum in Madrid and hosts important pieces of Spanish art as well as international works. We can also find interesting temporary exhibitions, workshops, guided tours….
  •      Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia: also called Queen Sofia Museum and hosts works of Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. You must visit the temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists coming from around the world.
  •      Thyssen Bornemisza Museum: the family that gives name to this museum collected more than 800 priceless historic and cultural artworks for generations. All of them are shown in this museum, really close to El Prado, in Plaza de Las Cortes neighbourhood and Neptune fountain.

These three museums constitute the so-called Art’s Triangle in Madrid, where it is possible to enjoy some of the best museums in Spain and admire the city’s beautiful architecture and history. We find emblematic monuments of Madrid in the nearby as La Cibeles fountain, gran avenida -one of the first in Spain- which is Paseo del Prado or the emblematic Metropolis building, one of the first skyscrapers in the city located between Alcala and Gran Via.

The city preserves and keeps potentiating perfectly well the art. You travel to Madrid and enjoy its art and history to the fullest. Choose a great accommodation and book directly a hotel in the Art’s Triangle in Madrid which allows you to be close to the entertaining centre and visit the art’s centres.
