Barcelona is one of the most visited cities in the world, and therefore it should always be included in any list that plans to provide alternatives to the best available city breaks for this Easter holiday 2014.
Visiting the old city is usually a success in the spring months: it’s not the time of arrival of mass tourism, so monuments, museums and theatres can be enjoyed with tranquillity, and the weather is perfect. Barcelona also offers beach, but the real charm of the city is at its centre, in the Gothic quarter, the Park Güell, the Sagrada Familia, the eclectic Raval, the lively Ramblas, shopping in the Born or Paseo de Gràcia… Everything !
The accommodation in the centre of Barcelona is similar to the offer in Madrid, maybe a little less competitive and with prices not as low, but in return you can find real gems where to spend a really different 2014 Easter Holiday. A good example of this is the Barcelona Museum, a modernist hotel in Barcelona, which takes up the emblematic building of Casa Garriga Nogués, and offers amenities such as free wifi in all rooms and even iPad (upon request at reception, subject to availability).
Another way to enjoy Barcelona is to organise an escapade with views to the Mediterranean, enjoying the sea without sacrificing the city’s dynamism. In order to do this, an interesting option is to book a hotel next to the Forum of Barcelona, the Olympic Port and Plaza de las Glorias (currently under a full reform)
The “essential” visits to include in your trip to Barcelona are some of the ones we have already mentioned, and other areas such as the port of Barcelona and the beach of La Barceloneta, the MACBA museum, which always has temporary art exhibitions that are well worth seeing, Montjuic, the area of the Lyceum and the Ciutadella Park…
The planning of events in Barcelona is critical to organize perfectly your time in the city, it is important to have a well balanced trip, because if our option is the centre of the city and we extend the distance of our activities, we will be spending a large part of our budget in taxi’s and public transport. Renting a car in Barcelona is also a good option, but for just 4 days it might not be practical. The choice is yours!
